first live journal entry

So ... now I have a live journal. I guess it's customary for the first entry to be awkward. I have nothing to worry about since every entry will be awkward.

What's up with me this week is that I'm promoting two shows that are meant to complement SEAMUS 2002 in iowa city at the University of Iowa -- http://seamus2002.music.uiowa.edu

It's going to be very interesting -- basically the line up comprises the first 8 or 9 people who were willing to get to Iowa City under their own power and perform for whatever I manage to take in at the door. Even so some very good people are coming through -- you can see the lineups at http://avalon.net/~kent/cornwarning/PR.html -- It's known as OFF SEAMUS ...

I'm apprehensive, both because I've never done anything on this scale -- i.e. two nights, and because I'm having to pay for the venue the second night ... at any rate it's going to be interesting. The funniest thing is that it is a big enough deal that it spawned an OFF OFF SEAMUS event at the Theta Beta Potato house -- which is private home here in Iowa City that presents a wide variety of interesting shows, mostly having to do with the hardcore scene -- hardcore as in noisy rock, not as in white gloves glowsticks in the air hardcore.

Anyway I have a lot of details to handle -- finding relatively clean spots for folks to stay, putting together a sound system, etc ... it should be fun, but at this point I'm overwhelmed...

So this is interesting -- I'm doing events called (OFF)SEAMUS which are the non-academic
answer to SEAMUS (the convention of the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States). Well apparently one of the local goofballs thought that they need to do an
OFF (OFF)SEAMUS (or is that (OFF)((OFF)SEAMUS)?) -- a bunch of local experimental/noise type guys are playing. It doesn't overlap with my event and is even worse-publicized than my events ... but it's funny that people are reacting to our thing ...
