i noticed I didn't have much in common with some of the people LJ seems to think I share a lot of interests with. So I started looking at what interests were actually matching and noticed that 1) 'abject' doesn't mean to others what it does to me (in joke w/friends) and 2) 'love' is too general.|
I put love in, along with hate. just because. I'm not as interested in love, in general, as some of the other people on LJ seem to be, or at least not in the way they seem to be into it.
A lot of the people I shared the interest 'love' with, turn out to be either really young and dorky or just mopey and dramatic. fuck that noise. And 'abject' seems to be a goth keyword. Or at least it's a common interest of people who are gay, goth, or both. I'm about as far from goth as you can get. I'm so far from goth, goth wasn't even around when I was as old as most of the people on LJ.
And yes I'm older than you all. Whatever. I seem to hang out with people younger than me, but I hope not in a creepy way. I'm married, and i'm not cruising for women. It mostly seems to come from an interest in Electronic music, and techno, etc, about which I would like to point out A) I've been into electronic music since the 70s and B) I got interested in techno in my mid 30s, when I wasn't quite as middle aged yet as I am now.
Which makes me sound defensive about it. Again, whatever. I just do what I do, and sometimes people think it's weird, and sometimes it seems weird to me. Oh well. I guess young people are in some respects more interesting to me than people my own age, both because I have common interests with them, and because I don't know a lot of people my age who care about the things that are important to me, or have similar politics, or ... I dunno. I live on a street of school teachers, university professionals, and a cop. They're nice and all, but they sure don't want to discuss techno, or stay up all night listening to loud electronic music.
