This is something I knocked out in a couple of hours messing around with the new Vaz Modular 3.0 Beta|
Vaz Modular can sound really effing good, in my opinion. Programs like VazMod and Reaktor shouldn't have a sound per-se -- they should sound like whatever you patch up. But for some reason, the sound I get out of Vaz seems a lot more punchy and edgy in a good way than Reaktor.
The way I made it -- mute, unmute, tweak, on some simple looped stuff -- reminded me of the unreleased Ron Hardy jams that Gene Hunt played when he was in Iowa City a while back. Ron was really the seminal creator of the template for Midwest-style minimal techno. I know he's more properly thought of as Acid House, but the stuff on Communique and early Drop Bass, etc, is similar in sound and production to Ron's acid tracks.
