Finished reading Clubland which is a depressing and fairly comprehensive account of the rise and fall of Peter Gatien and Michael Alig in the New York club scene. Owen reported on the scene for the Village Voice, so it's a lot less delirous than James St. James's Party Monster, which was recently made into a movie.|
This book bothered me because I'm familiar with the midwest scene, which is more of a blue collar, unpretentious affair. While there are drugs in the scene here, they don't seem to be the controlling factor; it really can be about the music.
