|The mighty Lowrey Organ

Lucas, via his ongoing Radiohead obsession was kind of interested in getting a Hammond B3 Organ. Never mind that they cost several thousand dollars and weigh several hundred pounds. It could happen! |
In the meantime, his grandmother decided he might like the organ someone brought into her second-hand shop.
BEHOLD THE MIGHTY LOWREY:
This sucker weighs about 300 pounds; I'd estimate it's about 50 pounds of sound producing mechanism, and 250 pounds of walnut cabinetry. It barely fit in the back of a Dodge Grand Caravan, but fit it did. So it's now a permanent installation in the basement.
It sounds pretty good, mostly because it's loud as fuck. It has an odd drum machine auto-accompaniment, with tabs you pull down that add new rhythms, and a crossfader between 'swish swish' hi-hats and kicks and clave sounds. It has a lead setting that's a semi-convincing version of a Minimoog with envelope on the filter.
The first thing I wanted to try was a cha-cha version of "I Found That Substance Rare" by Gang Of Four, complete with robot bassline.
BASS! HOW LOW CAN U GO?
