Good ol 'Unelectable Al' Sharpton really kicked ass last night.

"I suggest to you tonight that if George Bush had selected the court in '54, Clarence Thomas would have never got to law school."

That's throwing red meat in front of the Republican jackals. They'll say he was calling Bush a segregationist. I can't look inside Al's head but it seemed to me that the kernel of that argument is that Clarence Thomas went to law school because of Affirmative Action, and that Bush has been opposed to affirmative action. But instead, he implied that Bush would have nominated justices to the Supreme Court who would have rule the other way on Brown V Board of Education. Even today's largely conservative court wouldn't have ruled against Brown.

But maybe that's slicing it too fine for Rev. Al. When he's on a roll there's no stopping for petty things like facts and distinctions.

WHAT ARE YOU FUCKING GUYS DOING UP THERE? [Jul. 29th, 2004|10:21 pm]

If you watched Kerry's speech on CNN tonight, when it was over you got a curious bonus . CNN had a microphone open somewhere near where one of the technical directors of the convention was shouting instructions to the workers in the rafters. For 5 solid minutes, all you got was U2's "It's a Beautiful Day" and this guy shouting "GO BALLOONS! GO BALLOONS! WE NEED MORE BALLOONS!"

Then someone dumped a load of confetti and you heard "NO CONFETTI YET! GO BALLOONS! GO BALLOONS! ALRIGHT CONFETTI!" After a while with balloons piddling down, you hear him say "WHAT ARE YOU FUCKING GUYS DOING UP THERE?"

At which point they cut the microphone and went to Wolf Blitzer. Amazing.

NPR apparently wasn't clued in, and they were saying "this is the slowest balloon drop we've ever seen."

Hi- larious.
