Nail, Meet hammer

If you read TPM, you know that Josh Marshall has blogged so much about the Social Security issue that it's becoming a running joke in the blogosphere. Finally, today, he hit the Nail On The Head.

If you can't handle reading it, I'll summarize: the way the Democratic Party can reclaim some mindshare, and ultimately perhaps return to being a majority party, is to stop trying to frame their message, address focus grou concerns, yadda yadda yadda, and get back to a more functional approach: For any issue, decide what the best course of action for the country should be, do everything in your power to describe that course of action effectively to the public, and work like dogs to make it happen.

Everyone talks about the complexities of politics and government, but it's not rocket science. The people in the government have the same moral dilemma regular folks face every day: what's the right thing to do? Figuring out what the right thing to do is at any given moment isn't the hard part; what's hard is doing the right thing when you don't want to the right thing.
