Well, making light of a bad storm was a little premature. Our neighborhood was fine, but the tornado came into town, ripped the roof off of Menards, trashed a new car lot, destroyed our dairy queen, and then rolled right through downtown. The downtown Mall was damaged, St Pat's Catholic Church's roof was ripped off, and the Happy Joe's Pizza is completely gone.|
We drove over to Melissa's store to see if it was OK (it was), and the whole center of town is trashed -- literally hundreds of trees down, bricks and roofing and insulation all over the place. Right at the corner of Burlington and Clinton, there are a couple of surface parking lots, and the cars got tossed around all their windows blown out.
Oh, if you know Iowa City -- Gabe's stayed open, and didn't lose power even when the surrounding neighborhood was black, so folks could get their swerve on in the middle of the disaster.
UPDATE: The Press Citizen have a story up.
As far as I know, no one was in this car -- this was by the parking lot that got tossed like a salad.
