if you can't be creative ...

be clever. So I've been having fun doing DJ mixes lately. My new idea for a mix: mix just my all time favorite tracks. Mostly techno, naturally, but not exclusively. My idea would be to press up a bunch of CDRs to give away.

So the next idea: call it "These are a few of my favorite things"

Then the idea that follows naturally: do a mashup of Julie Andrews singing it, from "The Sound of Music" soundtrack, with John Coltrane's version, as an intro.

And from that, unbidding I started hearing in my head -- a techno version, but overlaid on Rolando's "Night Of the Jaguar" -- steal the ostinato riff that runs through Jaguar, but twist it to follow the chords of "My Favorite Thing" with the melody picked out in ghetto flute over the top.

Which on the face of it is both cheeky, and potentially awful, but really fucking funny at the same time...

More news as it develops.
