No On Prop 8

Most people reading this are not citizens of California, but I urge you all to donate money to defeat Proposition 8 in California, which would reverse the law of the state with respect to gay marriage.

If arguments appealing to your sense of fairness and the universiality of human rights don't do it for you, there is another reasion: Stick it to the Mormon Church.

My mother's side of the family are Mormons, and some of them, who I dearly love, are straight up bigots. That's my issue to deal with. But the LDS Church itself hasn't gotten directly involved in politics since they worked to defeat the Equal Rights Amendment. Fuckers.

counting out the electoral college

Here are the states that counted as strongly for Obama:
Washington 11 Oregon 7 California 55
New Mexico 5 Colorado 9 Minnesota 10
Iowa 7 Wisconson 10 Illinois 21
Michigan 17 Pennsylvania 21 New York 31
Vermont 3 New Hampshire 4 Massachusetts 12
Rhode Island 4 Connecticut 7 New Jersey 15
Delaware 3 Maryland 10 Virginia 13

258 Total

If that holds, any one of North Carolina(15),Ohio(20),or Florida(27) by themselves will but Obama over the top. Or a combo play, like Nevada(5) + Indiana(11) or Missouri(11). In no scenario does Obama have to win a state currently leaning to McCain -- just pick up some state or states currently leaning his way.

I find this cause for optimism, though i'm not willing to get too happy yet.
