The Office

The percussion is all banging stuff in my office with a sharpie, a bottle opener, and my knuckles. Including banging on the Presonus preamp that I was using at the time, a can of compressed air, etc.

Nothing to do with the television show, though I do enjoy it. Unless you see it as an auditory representation of the soul-killing ennui of cubicle life.

The chaotic higher synth sound is the Mopho, bass sound is Ableton’s Analog….

UK Dance Music — running at Genres Per Minute [May. 19th, 2009|03:31 pm]

Having just had a conversation with Secret Agent Gel about new dance genres that are emerging in the UK … and I have to say I’m amazed at what goes on there. Dubstep, Grime, Funky, Bassline, ‘Wonky’, Donk (I want to call it ‘Donkey’) …

It’s kind of like virtual particles appearing in a vacuum — do genres and anti-genres pop into existence and then annihilate each other?

Laks Recordings: Estonian Techno, Who Knew? [May. 19th, 2009|08:20 pm]

Laks Recordings is an Estonian Techno Label who e-mailed me out of the blue and sent links to their two latest releases. They’re worth checking out — the Egobomber EP is delightfully all over the place, miles from anything else I’ve heard lately. Imagine someone taking the template of soulful Detroit Techno and messing it up with lush euro strings and worldless female voice.

EgoBomber “Fall Of Planet Esoteria Pt.2″

Not feeling all the Kaupo stuff — a little too fond of odd FM squaks — but “Ohtud” is pretty sweet.

Kaupo “Ohtud”

You can buy their stuff on Juno Download. I haven’t heard it yet but Minivliner’s “My NY Wiener” has a grand title going for it.
