I got review copies for Grooves Magazine last week and I've been putting them through their paces. Of course using an almost-sine-wave electric piano sound doesn't really amount to putting FM8 through its paces.

Battery3 is nice, but it takes longer to load than Kontakt2 even when loading less than 10 megabytes of samples. It sometimes freaks out and goes silent and you have to shut down and restart Cubase to get it back. And sometimes it seeks to stumble a little on live playback. In other words, I'm using 3.0 and the general public might better wait for 3.0.1 or 3.0.2...

10 Mbytes being an asymptotic upper limit... I don't know how much it actually loaded, because it was like a dozen single samples, and then a couple of pads that were presets that were multisampled... at any rate it takes longer to come up than any other VST I use.

Not on this track, but I sometimes use pretty big sample patches, like when I'm loading a gigastudio string section with articulations.

It's a computer world now -- I can pull multiple 7 minute tracks into memory if I want, and none of my computers are this year's model. My studio machine has 2 gigabytes of memory.

You write for Grooves? Nice...

I don't know, I've made a conscious effort to get off the update wagon, especially now that many of these apps have gone into "good enough" territory and are heading into "now we're adding features just to justify asking for another $150 this year".

The NFRs pretty well dried up after we released Legacy Collection, sadly.
