Sarah Panderin Palin [Oct. 31st, 2008|08:31 am]
Okrzyki, przyjaciel!
Here's what I can tell from watching her speak in Latrobe PA on MSNBC: She doesn't have an actual accent of her own. It's like watching Cameron Diaz trying to keep up an English accent in a movie. She goes back and forth between Broadcast Standard and some mutant form of Upper Midwest. She's not from Duluth, why does she try to talk like she is?

But the kicker: In Latrobe PA, she was talking about 'Still-Workers.' That long-'e' to short-'i' vowel shift is specific to that part of Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. WTF? Does she travel with a dialect coach?

[EDIT] Just because your LJ is supposed to be all multimedia, and I love this image so much:

Question: How many people have decided that their Halloween costume this year will be "Sarah Palin"?

Speaking as someone whose wife sells costumes -- a fair number. But she became a candidate without enough lead time for companies to get masks on the market, so you have to assemble any costume from regular clothes, and either have the hair for it or a wig that can be done up in her trademark 'pile head' style.

It can be argued that she is her own best halloween costume. You've seen the sexy nurse, sexy nun, and sexy referee costumes? She's wearing the Sexy Vice Presidential Candidate costume.

Though she's definitely cured me of any lusting after tall brunettes in glasses. Just looking at her makes me ill, and when she starts talking I'm ready for vomit launch.

Sarah Palin is this year's Amy Winehouse for Halloween costumes. It's better without a mask.

I was thinking about doing it myself, but it would make me sick. Also, it's not funny until after they lose.

I dunno, Jeremy is from Wyoming and he and his family share that e-to-i thing... I think it's common in many rural redneck areas of the country. :)

It's also a major feature of the Kiwi accent

i don't know i'm kindof over ms palin it's all this joe the plummer bullshit that is urking the hell out of me. i also think it's annoying all the references to obama being unamerican or not a real american. as far as i can see none of these white boys are native american so they really need to put a sock in their prejudice wrinkled fat faces.
