Just as a warning to y'all who need glasses: Bifocals don't really help you see better. They let you see close things more clearly, and you can still see things far away. But in general I feel like my vision is worse with them, even though certain activities are easier, like reading CD liner notes. The ones I got -- the 'lineless' variety, have a pronounced 'pillowing' distortion around the edges of my vision. While my old glasses let me read a computer screen quite well, I have to keep tipping my chin up and down to find the sweet spot on the screen with the new ones. I was noticing during dinner that when I turned my head, the table top had a moving bulge in it as though an animal was crawling around under the tablecloth. This gave me a feeling of vertigo, which is not a good feeling to have at the dinner table.
I'm told I will get used to them in a week or so, I'm rather annoyed with the idea though that I have to turn me head instead of just my eyes to look to my left or right, and that I'll be continually changing attitude of my eyes to see things clearly. Oh well. Most of you are much younger than me, so here's a heads up -- *Grandpa Simpsons' voice* IT WILL HAPPEN TO YOU!
