I love Annie Lamott [Aug. 29th, 2003|09:19 am]
Okrzyki, przyjaciel!
I love Annie Lamott when she's funny. I love her unabashed, rather cracked version of Christianity. I love it when she says "It's taken me such a long time to discover that I can know a lot of stuff for sure, without being right."

Mostly I just like that she walks the high wire in her Salon articles -- She knows she's gotten rather good at presenting the Annie Lamott Show, with the right mix of self-deprecation and wit, and still manages to be skeptical of herself. She somehow finds a way to be entertaining and heartfelt at the same time, to employ the craft of writing successfully without smoothing away everything that's raw.

I know people who don't like her near as much as I do, and hey, it's horses for courses, no accounting for taste, etc. But for me, she's someone who writes with an open heart, which is pretty damn rare any more. I'd like to live that way, with an open heart, and reading her stuff reminds me of that.

Her Salon Column Archive

You will have to go through the 'day pass' beeswax to read it; a small price to pay.

she's great.

Hey, Kent -

Bill Van Loo here. I just finished Anne Lamott's "Traveling Mercies" a few weeks ago, which is also fantastic. I didn't know she wrote for Salon as well - I will check it out.
