Free Bible and Other Pictures [Sep. 19th, 2003|02:14 pm]
Okrzyki, przyjaciel!

The Gideon Bible dude was handing out bibles the other day. They're Born-Again-Bible-Lite in that they leave all the scary and boring stuff from the old testament out. New KJV; I prefer good ol KJV. New KJ has no 'see through a glass darkly' or 'the wine of astonishment.'

Other pictures are more glass 'n' light pics of the hospital. Boring.

It's almost like they realized their target audience doesn't like the idea of a vengeful God.

Sex, Lies, and Smiting

There's no doubt that the old testament has the most dark material, but I think that the Gideons always were more about comforting people than scaring them into X-ian beliefs.

My synopsis of the Bible is that the Old Testament is about How People Are, and the New is about How People Should (or could) Be. The most appealing parts of the old testament are the parts which share some of the spirit of lovingkindness that makes the new testament so compelling.
