starting to get really sick of spam ... [Oct. 27th, 2003|09:35 pm]
Okrzyki, przyjaciel!
Does anyone know of a spam filter that is:

1. Unix-compatible (i.e. written in C or C++, or Perl, or Awk, or ...)
2. Can be run from procmail
3. Doesn't take a guru to install and configure?

I know I can troll thru http://www.sourceforge.net and other sites, but I'm asking my friends for personal testimonials.

This would be running on HPUX 10, if that matters.

I've never installed the program myself and I'm not sure if it's only available as a server-side app, but Spam Assassin is great. It does some nice rules-based scoring, and anything that gets over a certain point value(which you can adjust iirc) gets tagged with a *** SPAM *** tag that's easy enough to send to /dev/null/ in procmail. It's pretty accurate too, the only time I got any false positives were from people sending text messages from their cell phones.

* ^Subject:.*\<*** SPAM ***\>

Skye has it installed on f4, you should talk to him about it.
