1. Paul O'Neill's assertion that deposing Saddam Hussein was a goal well before 9/11? I thought everyone knew that. CNN acts like this is some big revelation. Do they ever do any research on their stories, or, say, visit Project for a New American Century's website?
2. The current Secretary of the Treasury's 'investigation' into the documents O'Neill gave Suskind to help him research his book? Basically a smear -- according to O'Neill, all the documents he gave to Suskind came from the Treasury Department's general council. Expect exactly nothing to come of this investigation. The only justification for the investigation is that CBS showed a cover sheet for a document on post-Saddam Iraq that is marked 'Secret.' What the hell does that mean? Presumably O'Neill, Suskind, and CBS all have lawyers that vet what they do.
3. They don't try and refute anything O'Neill says, they just try and make it look like sour grapes from a disgruntled employee. But this guy is a Republican who has served in 4 administrations, not some nutcase like, say, Dennis Kucinich. O'Neill, in describing why he assisted Suskind and went public with his critique of Bush had the best comment -- "what can they do to me? I'm old, and I'm rich."
